Lake & Leaves Wedding Invitations

lake and leaves wedding invitations

I don't always get to meet the people I work with in person, in fact it's really the exception to the rule. Most of my clients are too far for us to ever meet in person so I typically do a lot of skype and facetime when I "meet" my clients, so it's always a treat when I get to actually sit with someone face to face! Kristin lives not too far from me, so we met to talk about her wedding and invites before we started the process and she was so sweet and lovely that I knew working with her would be so much fun! Kristin and her fiance were getting married in Minnesota near their family home, so we wanted to tie in the lovely lakes and green scenery in a more abstract way. So with some leafy details and loose watercolor landscapes we were able to tie in the natural wedding colors. She knew she wanted to include a map, so I painted little icons of the reception and ceremony sites as well as some other area details. One of my favorite details is how you can see the map through the vellum envelope. The whole thing came out so soft and pretty, and worked perfectly with the look of their whole day!

Botanical Watercolor Wedding Invitations

Sometimes something simple can be SO pretty. This was one of my favorite designs from this past wedding season. The inspiration was a botanical book with traditional illustrations (which you can see here) and it was just such a lovely starting point with a beautiful color palette. Bridget was torn between designs that had a lot going on and ones that were very clean and simple. To get the best of both worlds, we kept the invitation and front of the RSVP clean and simple, with the color just in the watercolor calligraphy names and grey sans serif text. We brought in the botanical inspiration and more impactful design elements with a custom repeat watercolor botanical painting which we brought in on the belly band and the back of the RSVP. For some reason this design just gives me the warm and fuzzies, I think it's the yellow mushrooms, they're my favorite.

Bright Painted and Gold Foil Wedding Save the Dates

Sometimes you get to work on a design that seems like it's going to be tough but then turns out great. This was one of those designs. I was a little worried when I was told the color palette was yellow orange and coral, I was a little unsure how it was all going to come together, but I have to say, after playing with a couple watercolor washes and font combos, I worked with the large hand done calligraphy names and modern serif font, and it all just worked!

You can see the first proof options below. This is a little sneak peek into how the whole process works, these were the couple initial digital proofs which we edited and ended up with this final design. I was so happy when this was the design they went with, is it the one you would have picked?

Watercolor Winery Wedding Suite

I finished this suite a little after the new year, Ginger had found an earlier design I had created for another winery wedding which she liked but knew she wanted to make it a better fit for her wedding. She loved the watercolor, but as she's a bold bride (she'll be wearing an amazing bright coral dress!), we knew we wanted to make her watercolor brighter and with a little more punch. I created these custom watercolors, with a more modern take on grape vines, and then did the accent scripts by hand in watercolor as well. We're just gearing up to start work on all her day of extras and I'm getting super excited for all the bright and bold fun!

Glittery Gold Custom Wedding Invitation Suite

Soooo SHINEY! Maggi and Andrew wanted a glamtastic wedding invitation. With a classic color palette of white, black and gold, we knew the focal detail for this invitation would be the gold foil treatment. I sketched out the glitter by hand so it would feel natural and organic instead of the more computer generated gold confetti you're seeing everywhere. It's more of a micro-glitter look which is nice and delicate. I then hand wrote their names and other important elements in the suite and paired them with a clean and modern font. With their pretty paper wrap and logo sticker, it's all pulled together in a perfect little package!
