FONT OPTIONS

Though watercolors and illustrations get all the love, fonts have a HUGE part in conveying the overall feel for your event. Pairing different fonts with the exact same artwork can transform a design that was once meant for a casual affair to the introduction to a black tie event. Though we don’t work from templates or limit font options, we do have certain tried and true font styles and combinations that always look great. We’ve shared them below so you can easily reference the feeling and vibe you like best. We can mix and match items, or just use the below as a jumping off point. Almost all of the calligraphy on the website is done by hand and then digitized for printing (unless you’re going ultra traditional like #3 below) this allows us to truly make the calligraphy fit the space and interact with the other design details and text that surrounds it.

ANATOMY OF AN INVITATION

We generally think that the 2-3 fonts is the magic number when it comes to invitation design- the perfect level of interest without being totally wakadoo. We have the “Body Font” which is what the majority of the text is done in. You want this to be legible and understated. Then we have the “Focal Font” which is typically what we like to do the couples names in, as well as headers and other important callouts. This is generally the prettiest and largest scaled font, meant to draw your eye. Then if we’re feeling crazy we’ll add an “Accent Font” which we use for secondary headers or to add interest as needed. Check out some of our favorite combinations below.
