SO many good things in this wedding I designed through Pepper's a couple weeks ago! Matt and Sandie came to Pepper's for all the delish food, and then met with me for all their style and design! I wanted to share all the pics here, but you can head over to the Pepper's blog where I go into a bit more details about the whole event. Long story short, I got to do lots of pretty flowers (with the help of my assistant at Peppers) plus build lots of cool things from old salvaged doors, add in lots of custom signage and plenty of styling of props, and it was basically a perfect weekend for me! A Revolutionary Gala
I'm just coming up to the end month three at the new job! As you can imagine, it's been a little nutty between all the work there and here at Wouldn't it be Lovely (hence the lack of blog posts of late). I wanted to share one of the first events I had the pleasure of designing for Pepper's! You can head over to the Pepper's Blog also to read in a bit more detail about the whole event, but I wanted to share the photos and what I got to work on here!
First was the cheese display, I love being able to create fun new ways to display all the delicious food that Pepper's has to offer. Next was the rum bar, with copper mugs, floral arrangements and the amazing wine barrel tables that Pepper's rents out. Being able to work with flowers is one of my new favorite things, even though I am so NOT a morning person, I never mind waking up at 5am to head into the Boston flower market!
Then were the centerpieces! The client wanted something vintage and fun, where each table was a little unique vignette. I actually did some serious antiquing for this one, choosing everything from vintage teapots to metal beer steins. Then was finding enough books! I was about to find about 100 vintage books but that meant there only about 5 per a table, and i needed more like 10 per table, so I scoured my house (I read a LOT) and my parents and in-laws houses for hardcover books which we painted navy and a deep forest green and hand painted gold details on the binding to make them feel a little older. The consistency there really helped the displays from feeling too busy, which was a HUGE plus.
Last but not least was the dessert display! We wanted this display to be a bit more opulent than the other decor, a final decadent display if you will! So with some gilded mirrors, a flag bunting backdrop, and some gold partridges, it couldn't have been more perfect!
Sketching
A little check in and process reveal today. I'm working on an invite which will include a "schedule of events" so I'm creating little symbols and icons for all of the different parts of the couples wedding weekend. Sometimes little hand drawn elements are more fun than rendering them perfectly in illustrator on the computer. It's always a toss up for me as to which I like better, graphic or hand rendered. In this case, I went with the hand drawn elements because it gives the invite a more personal and laid back feel, which felt right for this couple. They are planning a super fun weekend and we want the invites to convey the fact that everyone will come and feel right at home!
DIY: Easter Egg Surprise
This was a project I did last easter, but I wanted to repost it because I'm still in love with it and haven't and a chance to do anything for Easter this weekend! It's easier than you would think, and super fun!
To blow out the egg, I poked a hole in each end with a needle, and then made the bottom hole bigger with some drill bits. Then it all came down to blowing in one end and having all the egg guts pop out the other. Lovely. Then I microwaved the empty shells to "cook" the remaining egg inside, which also makes the shells a bit stronger. After drawing the patterns on the outside, I wrote out a little message, rolled it up and inserted it into the bigger hole in the bottom. To make it even more fun when the egg was cracked, I added some glitter into the mix. To seal up the bottom, I used a bit of tissue and liquid bandaid.
Weddng Invites With Southern Charm
I just send these wedding invitations to the lovely Ashely and Jason. They are having a classic southern wedding with some vintage and rustic details. We were on a tight timeline (less than a month) but they came together beautifully. Ashely loved Elaine and Steve's wedding invitation I designed last summer, so we used that layout and color palette but gave it a more traditional format and fonts. They are using vintage skeleton keys as a motif throughout their wedding, so I designed a custom wedding logo and tied the key into a couple other places in the invitation as well. Ashely and Jason wanted to have a quote on the opening page of the invitation, and the one we used played in perfectly with their key theme. With the final touches of a custom map, lavender envelope liners, and inner envelopes, this design was perfect for a wedding with a little southern charm!
